The Asus ROG Ally X is a Handheld Windows device with an inbuilt gamepad. Today I’m going to be discussing how this embedded controller fares compared to other gamepads on the Market.

I have Personally studied differences between some gamepads that I’ve had experience with. I find the standard Xbox wireless controller to have a much more comfortable grip than the ASUS ROG Ally X, and after thorough testing, the Ally seems too thick to fit well in my hands, and it has caused me trouble keeping steady grip on the machine when attempting to use it in handheld mode.

Nintendo Switch

Compared to the Nintendo switch, I find though the joy-cons fit better in my hands, the buttons are too small for people without small hands. The Nintendo switch’s buttons, though, are too small, but despite the inferior ergonomics, the Screen is larger than the Ally and I find it easier to see what’s going on.

The Ally Itself

some pros of the Ally are that it can act much more comfortably for desktop control, with the function of the joystick controlling the mouse, with the way the joystick is suspended, it can much more comfortably control the mouse and operate the desktop in handheld mode, as a computer the Ally functions quite well. As well, the Ally operates very smoothly and works amazingly for slow games that don’t require much reaction time. However, many fast paced games or games that require high reaction time struggle due to the Ally’s larger frame, making it difficult to play such games.

For the average person, and for most situations, I think a specialized gamepad such as an Xbox wireless controller or a PlayStation DualSense are the ideal tools for most at home gaming, but the ROG ally is a great choice for mobile relaxed gaming or computer usage.
